Mandatory Leadership Dates and Other Summer Band Camp or Clinic Dates
Being elected or appointed to a band leadership position is a high personal honor and a serious personal responsibility of the highest order. Therefore, it is necessary for students to sacrifice a great deal of time and individuality in order to serve the band in these positions. Dates posted on the band calendar are considered non-negotiable and mandatory for leaders with the exception of the most urgent of emergencies or situations. We ask that students with potential date conflicts speak with the band directors before accepting leadership positions.

Persons who accept positions of leadership and who have, or develop, conflicts can expect to be demoted from their position. In the event a student must be absent on any of the dates (for any reason except personal illness or family emergency) a student must have prior approval of the band directors.

  Leadership Attendance and Vacations
Again, it is important to understand that leadership positions require a great amount of sacrifice. While we expect and want all student leaders to enjoy their summer and to take part in family vacations, trips, church outings, and other important events, students in leadership positions must schedule their time away to accommodate their duties and the band schedule. Members of the leadership team are expected to be in town to prepare for the first two weeks of June and in town at least 5 days before the start of Fundamentals Camp in August. Students unable to make this commitment to all Summer Camps and Clinics are asked not to apply for or accept leadership positions without first seeking a conference with the Band Directors.

Leadership and Other Activities During the School Year

It is important to understand that leadership positions require a great amount of sacrifice throughout the school year. We encourage all students to be well rounded and take part in other aspects of school and community life. However, student leaders must understand and accept that their obligation to the band must be their number one school or community activity. Student leaders should plan on a once a week after school meeting with the band directors during the fall. During the 2nd semester the meeting will once every two weeks. Student leaders must not involve themselves in any activity, job, sport, club, dual enrollment class, community organization, or any event on rehearsal nights (Tuesday / Thursday), performance date, dress rehearsal, or during the two weeks leading up to festivals & competitions. Student leaders must also agree to not opt out of any Festival or Competitive performance, Music Conference performance, or Televised performance Violation of these requirements, will place leadership positions, part assignments, and band placement at risk.
